Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty

About Us

For more than 65 years, the Tonne and Hickey Family has been opening their doors in Wisconsin Dells to generations of visitors. Now a Wisconsin tradition, it seems no vacation is complete without at least one visit to Paul Bunyan’s each year. Customers from around the world visit the Northwoods to start their day with our famous Paul Bunyan Cook Shanty breakfast.

We open the doors at 7 AM every day during our season.  However, our day actually starts before 5 AM when our dedicated bakers at each location prepare the batter for our famous Paul Bunyan sugar donuts. From the time the doors are opened, our bakers are constantly making donuts to ensure only the freshest reach your table. Family-style meal service is what Paul Bunyan’s does best.

From the moment you walk through our doors, you will be amazed at the sights, sounds and smells of home cooked meals and bakery served in our traditional log dining rooms. The antiques that line the log walls, ceiling and anywhere else we can display them are authentic. We are the Northwoods. Our friendly crew made up of all ages is dedicated to make your visit with us a unique experience.

Location

No reservations are required for hungry visitors to the Wisconsin Dells Paul Bunyan’s, which boasts seating for up to 450 people. This authentic log beam built restaurant has been in business since 1958. And we’re serving the family style, all-you-can-eat meals which has kept us popular among tourists and locals.

For more than 50 years Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty has been one of Wisconsin Dells’ dining favorites. The atmosphere of the ole time 1890′s logging camps starts right from the parking lot where a giant, wooden lumberjack sign welcomes you in the front door. Browse through the gift shop as you make your way to the dining room entrance. Artifacts, fixtures, tools, and historical logging photos adorn three golden pine log dining rooms. Antique lanterns illuminate red and white checkerboard tables big enough to accommodate large groups, yet cozy enough for singles or couples.

Don’t let the stacks of cars deter you from pulling into our over-sized parking lot. We’ve got plenty of room for you and your guests. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, our menu, service and style are the ideal memory makers. Don’t forget to grab a photo by the 15 foot statue strutting in front of the building. Kids love it, and so do the adults.
